DUBAI
The limit of imagination.
Dubai guide: what to do, where to stay and 4-day itinerary
A practical starting point for choosing the right area, getting around efficiently and planning your trip between the city and the desert.
Dubai works best at an unhurried pace. The mood changes between the Corniche, Burj Khalifa & Dubai Mall, the major museums and newer marina districts.
A city of close contrasts.
The waterfront, contemporary architecture and places rooted in traditional trade sit within relatively compact distances.
The climate changes the rhythm.
From November to February, milder temperatures make outdoor visits more comfortable. In summer, centre the day around indoor spaces.
How much does a trip to Dubai cost?
Dubai can be an exclusive city, but it also has more affordable options if planned well. Indicative values and subject to change.
- Accommodation: €150 to €300 / night (well-located double rooms).
- Food: €50 to €100 / day (combining street markets and a restaurant at night).
- Transport: €10 to €20 / day (using Metro and Taxi).
- Attractions: Main attractions (like Burj Khalifa) cost between €40 and €100+.
Expect an average budget of €600 to €1000 per person (excluding flights and shopping), depending on the level of luxury.
Four bases for experiencing Dubai.
Burj Khalifa & Dubai Mall bring you close to the centre; Marina and Palm Jumeirah favour beaches and modern life; Deira keeps the historic essence.

Which airport to choose in Dubai?
Dubai International (DXB)
- Best for: City centre access and fast Metro connections.
- Airlines: The vast majority of international flights and Emirates.
Al Maktoum (DWC)
- Best for: Low-cost flights or trips focused on the southern area.
- Connection: Taxis and buses.
Metro for the structure, taxi for the details.
The efficient and modern Metro covers most journeys between Downtown, Marina and Deira. Taxis complement the rest relatively cheaply and comfortably.
- Nol Card: Buy the red ticket (Silver Card) at metro stations and top up to use on public transport.
- Taxi / Uber / Careem: They are safe, air-conditioned and essential for accessing beaches and places without a metro station.
Culture, waterfront and desert.
Combine the impressive architecture in Downtown and Marina with the roots in Deira and a memorable trip to the dunes.
Four days, from historic to futuristic.
My itinerary to balance the brutal contrast of the city.

What to book in advance
I would book in advance
- Burj Khalifa (At the Top): Tickets sell out for the sunset slot.
- Museum of the Future: Buy weeks in advance, it is almost always full.
- Desert Safari: Ensure a spot with the best companies.
Can usually wait
- Exploring the Dubai Mall.
- Crossing the Creek.
- Walking around the Marina and Souks.
5 mistakes I would avoid in Dubai
- Underestimating distances: Dubai is huge. On the map it looks close, but walking from point A to point B can take hours or be impossible.
- Trying to walk everywhere: Highways separate the city. Outside pedestrian areas like the Marina, use taxis.
- Ignoring the summer weather: If you go between June and September, adapt your itinerary for indoor and air-conditioned spaces only (Malls and Museums).
- Forgetting the old neighbourhoods: Don't limit yourself to luxury and skyscrapers; the souks and Al Fahidi show the true origin of the city.
- Ignoring etiquette and culture: Dubai is modern, but in historic neighbourhoods or when visiting a mosque, dress respectfully.
